Peptide purity is not the same as peptide content
Answer first: Chromatographic purity and net peptide content are different measurements. Purity describes the relative distribution of detected components under a stated method; content addresses how much target material is present in the supplied unit. Neither result automatically establishes identity, sterility, endotoxin status or stability.
What chromatographic purity can support
A chromatographic result can describe the proportion of detected signal assigned to the target peak under the stated method and integration rules. Interpretation depends on the method, detector, sample preparation and reporting basis.
What content measurement asks
Content assessment asks a quantitative question about the amount of target material in the unit. Water, counterions, residual solvents and other mass contributions can affect the relationship between gross material weight and target content.
Why identity remains separate
An identity method evaluates whether the analysed material is consistent with the expected molecular entity. A high chromatographic percentage should not be converted into an identity conclusion without appropriate identity evidence.
Release decision rule
Build a specification with separate fields for identity, chromatographic purity, content and any other required attribute. Publish only the fields supported by approved lot-specific evidence.
